Golden Retrievers are very friendly and relatively easy to care for, but there are a lot of them in rescues. The main reasons why people abandon such wonderful dogs are allergies, financial problems, divorce or death of the owners. Occasionally Goldens are saved from abusive environment or found as strays. It is practically impossible to find a high quality purebred puppy in rescues, because there are long waiting lists for them.
Every potential adopter should fill out a questioner and pay an adoption fee. Every adopter is screened carefully and asked a lot of questions to find out if it is the right person for a golden retriever. To adopt such a dog you should have an opportunity to keep and exercise it according to its needs. The adoption fee depends on the age and condition of the dog. Young Golden Retrievers may cost you up to $300, while senior dogs and mixes are available at $100.
When dogs are brought into the program for adoption, they are evaluated carefully to determine creatures with aggressive behavior and biting records. Such Golden Retrievers cannot be placed into new homes. Accepted dogs are placed into foster families where they will live until the permanent home is found. Foster families evaluate the dog's temperament and study its personality to decide what sort of a home this particular animal needs. All purebred Golden Retrievers receive necessary vet care, vaccinations and basic obedience training prior to adoption.
